How We Finally Got Our Senior Dog to Take His Medicine

The last of our pack, our Border Collie Ace, is now 15 years old. He has been experiencing some stiffness and arthritis, so our veterinarian recommended a low dose medication to help keep him comfortable.

At first, we hid the pills in hot dogs or cheese, or mixed them into his food. Ace quickly became suspicious. He could smell or taste the medication and soon refused the treats and meals because he knew the pills were hidden inside.

Giving him a pill directly was uncomfortable for him and unpleasant for us. There had to be a better way.

After some searching, I found this little pill crusher, and it has made a huge difference. It is simple to use and crushes the pills into a very fine powder. We mix the powder into his food, let it sit for a few minutes, and he eats without noticing the medication.

Medication time is now much easier and less stressful for Ace and for us.

So, if you are having difficulty getting your dog to take medication, this may be worth trying.
